after five days in Myanmar with the heat our little girl started to have a heat stroke symptom, fever and cold. she looked all right and was still pretty active. didn't look like something serious. so our decision is to just let mom and her sleep in and spend the whole day in the hotel in the ac'ed room. I got up early as usual and went for a stroll towards the sule temple.
our hotel was on 21st right next to sule blvd, about 1km from sule temple. sule blvd was a great place to sample daily life for the locals with stores, restaurants, street stands and eateries lined on both sides, all the hustles and bustles going on all day long. some eateries looked very interesting, especially the ones selling rice noodles and boiled beef intestines, but i didn't gather enough guts to give it a try.
buildings on both sides of the street were a mix of old European and Muslim styles and everything else in between. the street was busy and crowded, full of cars, bikes, and pedestrians going all directions. although it was a cloudy day the high temperature made a walk like this a sweaty one. on my way back i ran into a big rain shower, it took a while before it finally stopped. while i was taking shelter under a gold store's canopy i got to see people rushing everywhere, not slowing down a bit! a mosque prayer call went off in the middle of the heavy rain, a very cool mix right in front of my eyes.
i did make it to the sule temple, walked around the square next to it. no, i didn't get in, after the last few days nobody's going to make me removing my shoes and socks for a while. i only took a peek from the outside. went back to hotel to have lunch with my girls. they also had a good time resting and catching up on cartoons and social medias.
after lunch, i took another walk towards the shwedagon temple, some 4km away. it was getting pretty hot and sunny by now. i was sweating big time. didn't get in this temple, either. the walk itself was great for people watching. had dinner at hotel again, the hotel restaurant didn't have many selections, but there wasn't much we could do. the thing that griped me the most was that the restaurant didn't have Myanmar beer. so we went out to get some. didn't seem to be an easy task, after consulting with a couple of people, we were finally directed to a seemingly Chinese restaurant and bought a couple of Myanmar beer. Myanmar beer is a pretty decent lager. i also tried mandalay beer with a shiny blue lable, it wasn't very good in my opinion, too light with little flavor. there went another day in Myanmar!
