#71，把postdoc 说成跟assistant professor 差不多。可见你对美国tenure系统太不了解。Assistant Professor 中文翻译应为助理教授。不宜翻成助教。助教在美国是teaching assistant. Assistant Professor 一般是在tenure track 上。做3-6年可升职为Associate Professor (副教授），并得到tenure. Tenure track professors (including Assistant, Associate, and Full) are considered core faculty in any school. There are none tenure track professors (also include all three ranks). But it will take another step for them to get tenure (所谓的终生教授）。For a PostDoc to get a faculty position, it is not easy. You know on average how many applications there are for a faculty position? 200 applications. These are 200 Ph.D.'s with relevant background for the position.
李开复如果是tenure track Assistant Professor, 说明他还是很行的。至于为什么辞职，也许拿tenure无望？
至少他的中文自传有两处不妥：
1。Assistant Professor 不是副教授。
2。苹果副总裁那段，英文版没有，让人觉得是自己（或写书的）发挥的。

另外，楼上很多人打击方舟子。这是不对的。这叫character assassination. 我们需要方舟子打假。现在说的是李开复的问题。方舟子如果有问题，可以另外讨论。我们应该敬佩方舟子的勇气。
