It is safe--I have tried it--my own feet have tried it well--be not
detain'd!
Let the paper remain on the desk unwritten, and the book on the
shelf unopen'd!
Let the tools remain in the workshop! let the money remain unearn'd!
Let the school stand! mind not the cry of the teacher!
Let the preacher preach in his pulpit! let the lawyer plead in the
court, and the judge expound the law.
Camerado, I give you my hand!
I give you my love more precious than money,
I give you myself before preaching or law;
Will you give me yourselp. will you come travel with me?
Shall we stick by each other as long as we live?

PS：惠特曼一生只出过一部诗集，即《草叶集》。但《草叶集》从最开始出版到最后修订的版本相差巨大。1855年7月4日（美国独立日）初版的《草叶集》一共才12首诗，然后经历八次修订，八个版本，到1892年惠特曼逝世前，已出到第9版，里面所收的诗歌也由原先可怜的12首发展成近四百首。
