HOUSTON - It’s a tremendous loss for young swimmers in the Cy-Fair area.
Popular coach Allen Salinas died as a result of injuries suffered while jogging along Telge Road around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
That stretch of road does not have sidewalks.
A pick-up truck hit Salinas. The driver stopped and called for help, but it was too late.
Salinas died at the hospital from his injuries.
Coach Salinas inspired and encouraged youngsters for years at one of the top swim clubs in the country - Fleet.
A University of Houston graduate, he was known for his quick smile, booming voice and enthusiasm.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Department does not expect to file charges against the driver.
