A man went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a secluded, rural area of the state. After spending the night, his grandfather prepared breakfast for him consisting of eggs and bacon. He noticed a film-like substance on his plate and he questioned his grandfather, "Are these plates clean?"
一个小伙子去看望隐居在乡下90多岁的爷爷。住了一晚上，爷爷早晨起来给他准备炒蛋加倍根。 他看到盘子上有一层薄膜似的东西，问他爷爷：“这盆子干净吗？”His grandfather replied, "Those plates are as clean as cold water can get them so go on and finish your meal."
爷爷回答说：“这些盘子是冷水所能做到的最好的了，继续吃吧，吃完”。That afternoon, while eating the hamburgers his grandfather made for lunch, he noticed tiny specks around the edge of this plate, and a substance that looked like dried egg yolks. So he asked again, "Are you sure these plates are clean?"
中午吃爷爷给他准备的汉堡包时，发现盘子边上有斑点,像是鸡蛋黄。于是又问：“这盆子真的干净吗？”Without looking up from his hamburger, the grandfather says, "I told you before, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them, now don't ask me about it anymore!"
爷爷根本没看他的汉堡包，说：“我和你讲过，这是冷水所能做到的最好的了，别再问我了！”Later that afternoon, he was on his way out to get dinner in a nearby town. As he was leaving, Grandfather's dog started to growl and would not let him pass, "Grandfather, your dog won't let me out."
下午，他出去买晚餐，爷爷的狗拦住他不让走。“爷爷，你的狗不让我走”。Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching, Grandfather shouted, " "COLD WATER", GET OUT OF THE WAY!"
正在看橄榄球比赛的爷爷头也没抬，大喊一声：“冷水，让开道！”
