Japanese Americans
他们组成美军史上获得最多军功荣誉的442团,团训是 Go for broke(夏威夷洋泾浜英语,意思是 孤注一掷)。

Go For Broke is a tribute to the famous US 442nd Regimental Combat team, under command of a bigoted Texan Lieutenant Mike Grayson (Van Johnson), who fought in Europe during World War II. When Grayson realises the team is made up of Japanese-American volunteers, he requests a transfer immediately as he struggles to believe the "Japs" are capable to be fit, American soldiers. Gradually, Grayson's prejudices evaporate with realization that his soldiers are determined to go above and beyond their call of duty. Van Johnson appeared in more than 100 films during his career and he became one of America's top war film heroes during the 1940s and '50s.

This is one of my Dad's favorite movies, I don't blame him, it's a freakin awesome movie!
Great movie .the american japanese did a bloody good job .
That joke they made about being honorary Texans was actually made official by the State of Texas which issued an official proclamation that everybody in the 442nd was officially an "Honorary Texan" for being the cavalry riding to the rescue of the Texas National Guard's "Lost Battalion" ,
The movie contained many scenes that actually occurred during training and overseas action. The 442nd RCT company depicted was "F" Company 2nd Battalion. My Father was the 1st Sergeant Fox Company from March, 1943 to April, 1945, and he was the one who made those remarks. The extras in the movie were actual 442nd veterans from other companies.
I have great respect for all of the 442nd soldiers who served their country even if their country considered them enemy aliens. I did not know that most of them were dual citizens because their parents registered their names in Japan after being born in the United States. I went to many Fox Company reunions and heard many war stories including Hill 140, Bruyeres, saving the lost Battalion and breaking through the Gothic Line.
l discovered this movie about 2 years ago...lt's a great movie...Plus it was made in 1951 without any heavy handed angry political correctness preaching it would have had if it were made today
I watched this movie when I was about 10 on the History Channel. As a black man, I think it's important to honor the soldiers of color who fought and died to save the world.
I always wanted to make an epic movie or story chronicling the 442, 92nd, 761st and 65th infantry.
In old Magnolia Cemetery in Garden Grove Ca, there's a grave. Sgt. John Ogawa 1919-1945, 442nd Infantry KIA. Nearby are both his parents who died much later, in the 50s and 60s. This must have been a hard sacrifice. I go there and take my kids to show them that everything we take for granted was bought and paid for by somebody else who did thier duty.
100th n 442nd became the most decorated fighting unit in the war. Loyal, good, smart young men with the future to lead the United States of America into the next century.
Great movie with some very good acting by the real troops playing roles. Van Johnson accurately portrays the feelings of many mainland Americans during the years right after Dec 7, 41 through 1943. The relocation of Japanese-Americans, the loss of their homes, businesses, bank accounts and such was/is a true black mark on our Country's history. I salute them all, for what they did, even knowing all this was happening to their loved ones.
god damn, why they did not do a reboot of this movie!!!
Great film. I agree, a reboot would be nice but it would probably be a turkey like most remakes.
I noticed that at 78 minutes, Hugh Beaumont (Ward Cleaver) makes an appearance as a field chaplain. I believe Mr. Beaumont was, in fact an ordained priest or minister.
Thanks very much for uploading this.
Does anyone have "Above and Beyond" with Robert Taylor?
I used to have it but my tape went bad.
Even though this is a fictious account of the famous 442- My Dad and his brother's loved this movie. From what I can recall this brought a lot of joy for them. Thank you for the download! Great movie!
442nd RCT. Most decorated unit in WWII with there families locked up in camps in America . IRONIC SHIT, but normal
Well, actually it was just the Japanese Americans on the West Coast where all those Hollywood Democrats live who were forced to move into Internment Camps for the duration of the war, but yeah totally screwed up. Definitely not as screwed up as what happened to all the Jews forced to move into the Warsaw Ghetto by the Nazis of course, which is probably why the Nazis didn't have too many Jews volunteering for the Wehrmacht. Daniel Inouye who won the Congressional Medal of Honor with the 442nd became a Senator from Hawaii after the War. That's normal for America too. Democracies tend to develop an appreciation for irony after the bullshit plays out.
A great movie to watch on Memorial & Veteran's Day!! Thank you for your service
My dad would had been in Italy with these guys but he had his left bicep shot off on Anzio.beach head.
They were/are a very brave group of men. It's good to see they now get the recognition they deserve. Gambatte mina sama.
Great movie but generally the officers aren't conducting training, barking orders at the lower enlisted. That's the NCOs' job (maybe it was different in this situation).
It was real sad for me when the pig went west. Even though I understand the depicted need. So very sad. I cry. A luxury, I suppose.
But I weep so deeply for that pig!
Van Johnson, had to really have the devil's own time, having to play a "Chicken-S***" '2nd John', in an outfit, he didn't even want, any part of.
That kind of officer was RAMPANT throughout the United States Military. The Lieutenant, being a 'Southern' boy, was thought to "have a natural knack", for handling non-white Soldiers.
Yessss Sir! A great, 'STERLING' example of the "GREATEST GENERATION", in action, during WWII.
Just a fun fact the song the soilders are singing at about 6 min is Kaimana hila a song detailing the beauty of Diamond Head and the surrounding area
I like the way the publisher says "under command of a bigoted Texan Lieutenant Mike Grayson (Van Johnson)", and "Grayson realises the team is made up of Japanese-American volunteers, he requests a transfer immediately" when in fact he wanted a transfer because he had actually been in the Texas unit before he went to OCS. That was his transfer reason, not cause he was a bigot. So, maybe watch the movie and enjoy the Holloywood version of life.
If you watch the movie, when he's talking to the captain, Grayson says something like Italian-Americans and German-Americans are different than Japanese-Americans. He also said he'd rather be fighting against "Japs" than fighting with them.
As the movie shows the Lieutenant from Texas actually was prejudiced against Japanese Americans when he first got assigned to the unit although having just graduated from O.C.S. he obviously had the intelligence to know better than to tell his Commanding Officer that. His growth in character by overcoming his prejudice and coming to admire and be supportive of his platoon's soldiers by the end of the film is a reflection of how America was changed by the war starting with the military which prior to and during the war was segregated only becoming desegregated by President Truman after the war. Like St. Paul's conversion from an anti-Christian religious bigot to the Christian Apostle whose letters make up most of the New Testament, the Lieutenant is actually more admirable because he was able to overcome his prejudices than if he'd never had any.
FWIW: Rabbi Saul/Paul was not anti-Christian! At that time, NO non-Jewish believers existed. This was a "family quarrel" between Jews who believed Rabbi Yeshua was and is the Messiah, and those who didn't. Rabbi Saul believed himself a "heretic hunter" and couldn't have cared less what non-Jews believed. When he went to Syria, he had letters authorizing him to root out "heretics" from the synagogues in Syria!
Please read the Acts of the Apostles very carefully. Even twenty years later, when Saul returned for the last time to Jerusalem, Rabbi Yacov ("James") told him ...how many tens of thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the Torah", and that unbelieving Jewish liars had followed him to Jerusalem to slander him and accuse him of teaching Jewish believers not to live as Jews or to raise their children as Jews.
Many of these believers in Israel continued to go to regular synagogues, as well as their own Messianic synagogues and continued to perform rites in the Second Temple. Yakov asked Saul to meet a group of Jewish believers who were about to end a Nazirite vow with a purification ritual in the Temple, and pay for their sacrifices (Acts 21)
IN ACTS 15 THE JEWISH BELIEVERS ACCEPTED NON-JEWISH BELIEVERS AS FULL MEMBERS OF THE BODY WITHOUT DEMANDING THEY BECOME JEWS. SO WHY WITHIN THREE CENTURIES, WAS THAT REVERSED AND JEWS STARTED BEING CALLED CHRIST-KILLERS BY THE LIKES OF JOHN CHRYSOSTOM, AND BEING COMPELLED TO RENOUNCE BEING JEWISH AT SWORDPOINT???
FIFTEEN CENTURIES OF CHRISTIAN ANTI-SEMITISM POISONED THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JEWS AND NON-JEWS AND PAVED THE WAY FOR THE HOLOCAUST! AT LEAST THE VATICAN STARTED REPENTING FROM THAT WITH POPE JOHN!
Let us note that the opening theme is from The Thunderer by Sousa.
My dad is playing the ukulele. He passed in August 2014. Nice to see this on youtube! As a child we had to watch the entire movie just to see dad for a few seconds. :) My family and I love watching the short clip of dad. He later served with the U.S. Air Force for 23 years. RIP Oto. A family member did actually serve with the 442nd.
