In November, I see leaves painted golden brown.
They snip and snap like broken twigs when I step on them.
Wind picks up and people get red puffy cheeks.
In November, trees let go of their leaves knowing autumn is here.
In November, birds move to a different warmer place.
The air smells of cold.
In November, flowers hide their face like doors closing.
People stay cozy, warm, and sip coca.
In November, when I look up, the sky is plain brown.
The sun hides behind the clouds.
In November, inside me I have warm feelings, but still feel a chill.
In November, coats, hats, mittens and scarves are born to the cold.
In November, fridges are blocks of ice.
In November, I know, I cannot swim in the lake.
I cannot wear shorts, and cannot, and absolutely will not go to the beach.
In November, waves at the ocean roughly roll to the shoreline.
They are full of freezing fish and shells.
In November, I know Thanksgiving is coming.
I know I will soon be swallowing hugs and kisses.
