Could you please provide proof that malpractice lawsuit is the most important factor? I found it interesting you neglected to mention the high cost of doing insurance paperwork as an important factor.

Your assumption is that once given health insurance, those currently without would switch from a healthy lifestyle to one that is abusive of their bodies, could you provide data to support that?
The US healthcare system is the best in the world for those who can afford it, but that also came as the expense of neglecting the needs of millions. To me, that is immoral.

- 我看世界: 同意。医改的方向是正确的，但奥氏的方法是会将问题越弄越糟。方法的缺点可以在以后改进。对于楼住的4个观点的批评：
1。医疗诉讼赔偿额度的问题，医改不医改都存在。
2。医改不会减少医生的收入。
3。医改也没有i鼓励美国人放弃对健康生活方式的追求。相反，医保机构为了降低成本，势必重视疾病的预防（现在可以把病人剔出）
4。美国为他国支付高额医疗费很不公平。应该共同分担。

改总比不改要好。
不可能一次就改成功，但不改就肯定更麻烦

When a doctor prescribes a flu patient with 200 different kind of lab tests, the cost is out of control. However, the doctor must do so in order to avoid medical malpractice law suits. This in one of the major reasons of high medical costs (defensive medicine). The so called "healthcare reform bill" does not address this issue at all.

- The main problems of American medical healthcare are: First, American physicians' charge are too much. We know, their incomes are the highest in the world. Second, Hospitalization charge also too much. Patients, or even the insurance groups cannot afford to pay such expense. Third, Medicines are too costly. Fourth, medical Insurance company's premiums are too high. There are still many others.
Anyway, American health care system has gone down to an irretreivable situation that needs a total renovation. Unfortunately, American politics, together with the interest groups block the way for the sake of selfishness and greediness.
Frankly speaking, for the existing situations of American healthcare, any reforms is futile, because it is too late and too much involvement.
It needs an overall revolution!

- 解滨: No. The main purpose of the healthcare reform is to expand coverage - insure the 32 million uninsured poor people. Lowering the cost is just a lieExpanding coverage is the short term goal, reining in cost (or at least slowing growth of cost) is long term.
I don't doubt malpractice lawsuits are major problems and I think there needs to be some kind of reform on that. However, there is no evidence that this is THE most important factor of high healthcare cost
