那么像胃病，肝病这些非急症呢？ 没有保险就不给看。说不要命，行，那么癌症呢？ 这些属于今天明天死不了，但给病人无穷痛苦的疾病，没有保险，医院是不给看的。MD Anderson Cancer Center 就是这么做的。
挽救生命，解除病人的痛苦是医生的职业道德。
ER只是COVE救命这一项。

Like Canada, everyone has insurance, which does not mean that you are going to get medical care you want
I have so many this type of stories:
One Canadian had heart attack, then cardiologist found out that he had coronary artery disease which need heart bypass surgery right away, and then doctor told him that he has to wait because lots of patients are waiting for this surgery before him,
the patient was lucky enough, survive from the heart attack, 6 month later, he developed the heart failure due to previous heart attack, then doctor saw the patient again and told him : " I am sorry, you are too sick, I do not think that you can tolerate this type of surgery any more"!
My point here is if government do not have enough money to support the universal health insurance, people can not get care anyway no matter patient has insurance or not.

- goodoctor: you are wrong, i am not worry about my money, I make enough, actually, less than 30% of patient i treat in the hospital is non insurance patient. IThere needs to be a balance between the scientific advance and the benefit of general public. Seeing the world from one side is not a good way of observation.

- awang9988: This is not about 大锅饭 or communism. You don't need to be worried for making less money for yourself. MD in Western world and Japan also makes a lAmerican doctors make more, and they take care of patients. We don't throw patients out, because they don't have insurance. Japan does though, and there have been many reports that many Chinese hospitals do the same, i.e they refuse to treat you without the payment made first.

- fishingperch: ER是救命的，没错。Let me put it this way: let's hope the Obama care does work while not leading to a social welfare program, which definitely will NOT work in the long run. As I said in my piece, we hopefully can get everybody in and conduct effective early diagnostic and preventive programs to prevent the prevalence of chronic diseases like diabetes and cancer, which consumes a lot of the health care cost at the moment. Much of these rely on the progress of medicine too, which both clinicians and scientists are working very hard to realize.

Seeing the world from one side is not a good way of obyou are right, that is why we need the different system like Canada and US in this world, if you do not like US unfair system, then you try to live in Canada, vice versa.
