It is the perpetual stereotyping view of Asian being foreigners that stir this type of questions. The term orientals said it all...A white person will not provoke such of curiosity since people automatically assume they belong to this land vs an Asian who might be here over many generations.

It is more out of cultural ignorance than discrimination. A China born Caucasian may likely get the same question about his or her home country. The questions she is getting do not seem to convey negative views about her culture. They sound more like interest or curiosity. If she is in a multi cultural setting, like big coastal cities, she would get few such questions.
